Replace sagging ceiling Maitland NSW

This video shows us replacing a damaged plasterboard ceiling in the garage of a 15 year old house in Maitland NSW.

The existing damaged ceiling had been removed by the builder.

We did a number of things to increase the structural strength of the ceiling to prevent any future problems.

1. Use twice as many screws and more stud adhesive to fix the ceiling to the roof trusses than is set out in the Australian Standard.
2. Re-enforce the plasterboard joints between each roof truss with plasterboard ‘back blocks’
3. Screw the the perimeter of the ceiling at 300mm spacings instead of the recommended 600mm spacings
4. Use a sheet lifter to hold the plasterboard sheets in place while we screw them off to prevent the sheets sliding on the trusses and removing the stud adhesive.
5. Installing plasterboard sheets immediately after applying stud adhesive to prevent a skin forming on the glue and reducing its effectiveness

This job took 1 day for 2 tradesmen to replace the ceiling then 2 hours the following day to sand the joints once they had dried.

The cost of replacing the garage ceiling was $1650 including GST and all materials.
